From the Youth Ministry Team March 2010 The youth had another successful Saturday outing! This past Month we went ice skating on a beautiful 40+ degree day. The sun was shining and everyone had a great time, we even were able to do some snowshoeing. After the skating the youth had a lunch of pizza, chips, and soda and played the board game Balderdash. Did you know that a teasel is a "teasing weasel" or that a pickthank is "an old Dutch custom where a pitchfork is given as a wedding present"? If you don't think so, you need to play the next round of Balderdash...game night to be announced soon! Thank you’s go out to the Kivela's and the Krook's for helping make our Saturday full of fun, friendship and yummy!
The youth would also like to thank our "frequent buyers" at our bake sale table that we held twice last month. Our family here at NICC has been very generous in helping us raise money to attend some special events such as Coco Keys and possibly a Berea event in the Fall. We will continue to hold the bake sale into March and April, but not on communion Sunday and Youth Sunday. Remember, you may preorder homemade Nissu by the Veesers and we will try to honor any special requests for certain homemade goodies

December 2009: From the Youth Ministry Team On Friday, November 20th there were 13 youth and 3 adults learning how to make pies from scratch in the fellowship hall kitchen. The pies were donated to the St.Vincent de Paul food pantry for their Thanksgiving baskets that they supply for families in our communities. It was an enormous fun watching as the youth transformed themselves into pastry chefs. We made 10 pies including a peach, 4 apple and 5 pumpkin. Due to technical errors, the youth were able to enjoy the fruits of our labor a la mode! Saturday morning Chauntelle Krook and Karyn Vesser delivered 18 pies, with the help of Bill Kivela, to the Sacred Heart Church. Next year we hope to be more involved in the setting up and packaging of the Thanksgiving baskets so that we can give the gift of servant hood to our community.
Our Wednesday Night Fellowship/Youth Group resumed meetings this month. We began with how looks can be deceiving and how comfortable we are with the way we look and are made. We learned that development of a positive self-image is a process and that God can provide us with this even when we can't. As we have some new to faith members it helps to have some youth with stronger relationships with God so we can share how/when God is at work in our lives so that we can see ourselves how God see us--as valuable and worthwhile individuals. (See II Corinthians 5:17) "god is more interested in your availability than your ability" With some of our member just entering a relationship with God we've switched gears and have begun to study prayer. We've discussed which challenges keep us from being faithful prayer warriors and have challenged ourselves to pray daily using a prayer list that we created together. We are not so far along this process that newcomers will be lost, so we re-invite all youth to join us on Wednesdays. We are still meeting from 7- to about 7:30 for accapela worship and praise, and our lessons and games from 7:30 - 8:15(ish).

June 2009 From the Youth Ministry Team The youth group is still looking for pool balls for their board games. We are planning on having t-shirts made up and are hoping to use a design that the kids have come up with. Currently there are only a few, very committed kids that have been attending. Thought has been directed toward the younger kids in the junior high are group. We need some willing adults to come forward and spearhead a few activities this summer. Perhaps a couple of day trips to get them started. Pastor Peter had spoken to a couple of adults, and hopefully we will soon have more details about this important step. NICC Youth We are suspending the aluminum recycling program. The process has become a money loser as the gas to get to and from the recycling center is costing us more than we are bringing in for the church. We encourage you and your neighbors to continue recycling for our economy and our environment and recommend MJS Metals in Townsend, MA for all your metal recycling needs. They have been great people to deal with during the entire program. We will be making our final can run either this week or next, so please no more after today. Thank you.
Youth Group this week will be at the
NICC. Our winter retreat to Camp Berea Deep Freeze January 30- February 1, 2009 was a blessing unto the Lord as we had youth commit and recommit their Mind, Body and Souls to the Lord. May God be praised. Please continue to pray for our youth as they return to school and work. The Youth Group attends two weekend retreats to Camp Berea in Hebron NH. Each weekend is a growing experience for the body as well as for the soul. We thank all who help sponsor a participant in the retreats; please know that your gifts do not return void. The Youth Group has collected over $1,400 for the Building Fund. Thank you for all your aluminum cans. If you would like more information about the youth activities we offer, please call Geri Nelson at 603-878-1327 or the Veesers at their home. Thank you to all who participated in the
Drive Thru fundraiser. The money we raised went to the Youth Group and the
Building Fund. A Letter Recently Mailed To The Youth October 2008 Hi there,
As I am sure all of you have been noticing over the past 2 years, the frequency and dependability of Sunday youth group has been on a downturn not only on Karyn’s and my part but also on the part of those attending. Now that we have moved back into our meeting house as of September 14th, we would like to remedy this and get back to meeting on a regular basis and inviting others to meet with us as brothers, sisters, and children in Christ.
I am challenging all of you to not only begin joining us on Sunday evenings, but to make the effort to schedule your weekend so as to have this time free to spend with God and your fellow Christian youth. I am also sending out the challenge to bring friends. We are not trying to recruit church members. We are only trying to give another opportunity for youth in our community to come together in a safe and Christ centered meeting and to spend time with and in Him.
We are spending the first part of the year using “contemporary” secular music to address topics Biblically that many of us face on a daily basis such as relationships and dating, evangelism, and personal responsibility. This should run for approximately the next 13 weeks.
We also have the ability with the new sanctuary, to use more multi-media in our lessons, as well as once again using the sound system for worship before and/or after the evening’s lesson.
I am also looking to attendance to help make decisions as far as other events and activities throughout the year.
1. Deep Freeze is coming up, and we can get a discount if we book our week before Nov 1st. In order to do this, we need to know how many people want to stay active within the youth group and who might have friends that Berea might be helpful to in their walk with Christ.
2. We want to begin Youth Sunday’s again this month and need to know the extent of participation each of you want to put into the service. With the larger sanctuary and multiple entrances, we have more places for our greeters to assist the cons. deacons. We also have a nice new kitchen for fellowship so be sure to ask if any parents would like to donate snacks for after service fellowship and/or youth group.
3. Ga-Ga is another activity we would like to bring back, but 3 person Ga-Ga gets old quickly.
4. We would also like to have social get-togethers with other youth groups, but that needs attendees as well as knowledge of what other churches or groups do a Christ centered youth gathering. We look to all of you for this information.
We look forward to seeing all of you back on Sunday evenings and recommitting to grow our youth group in the 2008-2009 school year. Please feel free to call me with any questions or comments.
Humbly sent as His Servant and yours,
John Veeser
