The Cleanliness of Godliness
Mark 7:1-23
July 4, 2010
Question: Aren’t Christians just judgmental hypocrites?
Affirmation: Judgmental Religion has nothing to do with real Christianity
Religion
5So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus,
"Why don't Your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead
of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?"
Mark 7:5
21 "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? 22These
are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands
and teachings. 23Such regulations indeed have an appearance of
wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh
treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual
indulgence.
Colossians 2:21-23
15 Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him.
Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "
Mark 7:15
9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
Jeremiah 17:9
10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
Romans 3:10
6He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about
you hypocrites; as it is written: " 'These people honor Me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from Me. 7They worship Me in
vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'
Mark 7:6-7
9And He said to them: "You have a fine way of setting
aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!
Mark 7:9
14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your
neighbor as yourself." 15If you keep on biting and devouring
each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Galatians 5:14-15
20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of
the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the
kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20
Relationship
6 You see, at just the right time, when we
were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:6
18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the
unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive
by the Spirit,
I Peter 3:18
16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power
of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for
the Gentile. 17For in the gospel righteousness from God is
revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is
written: "The righteous will live by faith."
Romans 1:16-17
21 God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we
might become the righteousness of God.
II Corinthians 5:21
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and
self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who
belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and
desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step
with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and
envying each other.
Galatians 5:22-26

Sermon Notes
The Alpha and The Omega
Revelation 22:12-16
July 12, 2009
Preached by Dr. R. Gary Heikkila
The message is an avowal of the omnipotence of the Lord
Jesus: The Alpha (the beginning word, the beginning letter of the Greek
alphabet) and the Omega (the concluding letter of the Greek alphabet). "The
beginning and the ending," "the first and the last," "the all-inclusive
revelation and reality of the being and existence," - all of God! This is a
message on the deity, the exaltation, the honor of our living and glorified Lord
(based on Revelation 22:12-16 and selected passages). It is an avowal of the
omnipotence and immutability and eternity of our Lord Jesus. He is also
the Alpha and the Omega of our salvation.
What is it to be saved -- is to be saved by the Lord Jesus.
What is it to be a Christian -- is to be a Christian in the Lord Jesus
What is it to have hope -- is to have hope in the Lord Jesus.
What is it to be forgiven -- is to be forgiven in the love and mercy of the
Lord Jesus.
What is it to go to heaven -- is to see His dear and blessed face.

Freedom
New Ipswich Congregational Church
Preached by Stuart C. Nutter
Galatians 5:13-25 July 5, 09
Basic Concept: To be in Christ, is to be truly free and freedom finds its
highest good in service.
1. WE ARE NOT BORN FREE.
Gal 4:3-8
2. WE ARE BORN AGAIN FREE.
John 8: 31; Col 2:12-15
3. THE SPIRIT KEEPS US FREE.
2 Cor 3:1717; Rom 6:16
4. FREEDOM PRODUCES COMMITMENT.
Gal 5:13-15,25
Think About It!
1 Peter 1:10-21
July 27, 2008
Rev. Stuart Nutter, Guest Minister
Purpose: This morning we are going to look at several important
Biblical truths that are often overlooked or neglected.
1. There is more to prayer than petition.
Focus Verses - 1 Corinthians 14:14-15
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So
what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my
mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
2. Jesus did not come to make us better citizens of this world;
he came to make us citizens of a different world.
Focus Verse - 1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of
darkness into his wonderful light.
3. Every believer, in every generation, is faced with the same
creative challenge.
Focus Verse - 1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without
effect. No, I worked harder than all of them - yet not I, but the grace of
God that was with me.
4. If human history has a beginning, then it must have an
ending.
Focus Verse 2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass
away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the
earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
"Victory Garden"
Galatians 5:16-26
July 20, 2008
Rev. Peter Wood
The more I try to produce the "Fruit of the Spirit" the worse
I do. Why?
"The Fruit of the Spirit" is the product of a day by day relationship with God.
Context
Rule of Bible Study: "A text out of context is a pretext."
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One who called you by the
grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel - which is really no gospel at
all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying
to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Galatians 1:6-7
You foolish Galatians! Who bewitched you? Before your very eyes
Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn
just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law or by
believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with
the Spirit, you are now trying to attain the goal by human effort?
Galatians 3:1-3
Doing it ourselves
I do not understand what I do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what
I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is no longer I
myself who does it, but it is sin living in me.
Romans 7:15-17
Bearing Fruit
What a wretched man! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:24-25
I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him,
he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
How? First: Crucify the sinful nature.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me. Galatians 2:20
If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and
follow Me.
Matthew 16:24
How? Second: Keep in step with the Spirit.
And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor (Paraklete:
One who walks along side).
John 14:16
He has shown you, O man, what is good and what does the LORD requires of you?
To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
And Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
Genesis 5:24
"Bird's Eye View"
Ephesians 1:18-23
July 13, 2008
Rev. Peter Wood
Where do I fit in the "Big Picture"?
God wants us to understand the power we weald as Christians.
Enlightened
Once more Jesus put Hi hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were
open and he saw everything clearly.
Mark 8:25
First Gift: The Hope
For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and
blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His
sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the pleasure of His will - to the
praise of His glorious grace, which He freely gives us in the One He loves.
Ephesians 1:4-6
Second Gift: The Inheritance
Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the
inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:12
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great
mercy He has given you new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil
or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power
until the coming salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-5
Third Gift: His Power
And in the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
These in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.
Ephesians 1:19 NASB
And how tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God. That
power is the same Divine energy which was demonstrated in Christ when He raised
Him from the dead and gave Him the place of supreme honor in Heaven - a place
that is infinitely superior to any conceivable command, authority, power or
control and which carries a Name far beyond any name that could ever be used in
this world or the world to come.
Ephesians 1:1921 Phillips
The church is Christ's body, the completion of Him who completes all things
everywhere.
Ephesians 1:23 TEV
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is
in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
Declaration of Dependence
2 Chronicles 7:4
July 6, 2008

Abraham Lincoln, 1863
2) Pray and Seek the LORD's face
Turn back to me
2 Chronicles 7:14 CEV

of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society."
Martin Luther King Jr., 1963
